Music at Idaho State University
Welcome!
Whether a student wants a career in music or just the pleasure of performing or listening, there are courses of interest at ISU. The Department of Music offers a variety of music degrees and a music minor.
An audition is required for admission as a music major or music minor. An Audition Day is usually scheduled for the last Saturday in February each year. Facilities
The Department of Music is located in the Fine Arts Building, which includes a 450-seat recital hall called Goranson Hall. Most Music Department concerts are performed in the 1200-seat Joseph C. & Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall, which opened in 2005. This beautiful concert hall is located in the L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. (See photo on the top of this page.)
Music Ensembles
A variety of performing music ensembles are available to ISU students. Some ensembles are also open to community members. These performing groups include bands, choirs, orchestra, and chamber ensembles.
Scholarships are available to both majors and nonmajors for participation in performing groups. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of an audition. Call 208-282-3636 or write to the music office (e-mail: music@isu.edu) to obtain the audition application form.
The Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
