The historical record begins with the fur trade, the rendezvous and eventually the establishment of Ft. Hall (1834-1856). Because it became one of the major stops on the Oregon Trail, the Anglo- record places great importance on the construction and operation of this trading site. In fact, the more than 250,000 travelers who came through this area on the various trails saw little of interest, the area being best described as somewhere between where you were and where you wanted to be.
