The INSE collaborates with the following facilities:
-
Idaho National Laboratory (INL)
is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to
meeting the nation's environmental, energy, nuclear technology, and
national security needs. The INL is a multiprogram, federally funded
research and development center (FFRDC) emphasizing applied engineering
to provide solutions for use across the DOE complex, as well as
regionally, nationally, and world wide. The INL is operated for the DOE
by the
Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA).
-
Idaho Accelerator Center
(IAC) is a unique research facility located in southeast Idaho at Idaho
State University. It provides opportunities for nuclear physics research
and development by creating partnerships with scientists and engineers in
the government, university, and private sector that are designed to make
advances and practical applications in the nuclear and radiations
sciences.

INSE research plan is in step with DOE's long-term nuclear research goals in:
- Proliferation resistant reactor and fuel cycle technologies that reduce
plutonium and waste build-up
-
Advanced reactor design to improve performance, safety and economics,
proliferation resistance, ease of development by utilizing new core concepts,
and potential direct conversion schemes.
-
Technologies for waste storage concerning transport, separation science,
waste characterization and integrity.
-
Advanced nuclear fuel in the aspects of safety, burn up and proliferation
resistance.
-
Fundamental nuclear science in materials, chemical science, nuclear physics,
and health physics.
