Learning Community - Women Involved in Leadership and Learning (WILL)

The Program

Women Involved in Leadership and Learning (WILL) is a residential leadership program that focuses on promoting achievement and leadership among undergraduate women students in strategic and innovative ways. WILL offers women students an unparalleled opportunity to increase their self esteem and confidence and realize their potential. The program enhances the collegiate experience through coursework in women and gender studies and leadership studies, gender-related programs and internships outside the classroom, and involvement in a student-governed leadership organization.

First Year

WILL participants will live together in Turner Hall for their first year in the program. ISU admitted undergraduate female students apply to the WILL program in the summer. In fall 2009 the accepted WILL participants will take a one credit First Year Seminar class focused on leadership and women's studies, that is primarily for WILL participants. This class will be taught by Claudia McCoy and Heidi Harold. Readings and discussion will consider the roles of women in contemporary society as well as resources available at ISU.  The class will read Barbara Ehrenreich’s and Deirdre English’s book, For Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts' Advice to Women, among other readings.  This course counts towards a Women’s Studies minor and is open to students at all class levels.

If you are interested in taking this course, call Heidi Harold at 282-2805. You must register by Friday, May 1.
