Housing Options

Residence Halls

Residence Halls are best suited for freshmen and sophomores at ISU. Residence Hall living offers a strong community atmosphere and student interaction through educational, social, and cultural programming. Smoking is not permitted inside any residence halls. Possession or consumption of alcohol is likewise prohibited.

Residence Hall Features

Hall prices include all utilities, basic cable television, and wireless internet (wireless internet requires an ISU computer account). Each hall has a Residence Director (a full time professional staff member) who supervises hall staff and oversees hall operations. Each building also has trained student staff serving as Resident Assistants and Safety Assistants. At least one staff member is always on-call to assist with any problems.

On-Campus Apartments

Apartment living provides you with an opportunity to live in a community of students and their families from all over Idaho, the United States, and the world. Apartments are available to non-traditional students and students who have already completed their first year of college. Smoking is not permitted inside any on-campus apartments. Residents age 21 or older may have alcoholic beverages, but only in their own apartment.

Apartment Features

All prices include all utilities, basic cable television, and wireless internet (wireless internet requires an ISU computer account). Most apartments include a stove, oven, refrigerator, on-site mail delivery, and coin operated laundry facilities. (Links above provide specific information about each unit.) Children's playground areas are available at McIntosh Manor, Pulling Courts, and Ridge Crest. Each apartment complex has a Building Manager who lives in the complex. A staff member is always on-call for emergencies.

Meal Plan Information

A meal plan is required for residence hall residents unless they are in their junior year or beyond. Meal Plans provide nutritional and convenient meals for our students without the hassle of cooking and cleaning the dishes. Students can use their meal plan at GT Dining Hall, Rendezvous Food Court, and the Pond Student Union. Meal Swipes are only used at GT Dining Hall. GT Dining Hall is a cafeteria style dining facility with all you can eat, while Rendezvous and the Student Union are a la carte (pay per item).

If a student runs out of flex dollars they can add more money to their account by contacting Chartwells at 208.282.5831. Students in apartments may also purchase residence hall meal plans or commuter meal plans.

Changing a Meal Plan

Meal plans may be changed during the first two weeks of the semester by visiting the University Housing office or emailing the change to University Housing at reslife@isu.edu If a student does not want a meal plan, or wants a meal plan not normally available (e.g. a freshman wanting a junior meal plan), he or she can submit an appeal at the University Housing office, although the appeal will not necessarily be granted.

The GT Dining Hall

The GT Dining Hall is located in Turner Hall. GT serves meals seven days a week, except when closed. GT can meet virtually every diet by offering a convenient and large menu. There are four major service areas offered: Main Entrees, Soup and Salads, the Grill, and Deli Bar. GT serves cafeteria style, so you can always get more if you’d like. Meal Swipes and Flex Dollars can be used at GT. When it comes to economy and nutrition, GT is by far the best choice on campus. Hours of operation and the current menu are both available online.

Rendezvous Food Court

Located in the Rendezvous, the Food Court offers fast food, cooked/prepared to order meals, deli subs, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and drinks to students with Flex dollars or cash. The Rendezvous is a great place for lunch and snacks and Coyote Jack’s is open for dinner. You can also get snacks and some lighter hot meals at the C-Store, a convenience store right next to the Food Court that accepts Flex Dollars or cash.

Pond Student Union/SUB Market Cafe

Located in the SUB, the Market Cafe offers fast food, cooked/prepared to order meals, deli subs, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and drinks to students with Flex dollars or cash. The Market Café is a great place to grab a bite in between classes or to meet friends for breakfast or lunch. The Market Cafe accepts Flex Dollars or cash.

Chartwells

Chartwells is the company who operates the GT Dining Halls, Rendezvous Food Court, and Pond Student Union/SUB Market Cafe and the C-Store. On the Chartwells website you can find the current menu, nutrional information, and more. You can also leave feedback for Chartwells.
