Residence Hall FAQs

What is the difference between the residence halls and apartments?
Residence halls are best suited for freshmen and sophomores at ISU. Residence hall living offers a strong community centered atmosphere with many opportunities to meet people through educational, social, and cultural programming. For upperclassmen and non-traditional students looking for a more independent experience, on-campus apartments are an excellent choice. Apartments are traditionally styled with options for studios, one bedroom and two bedroom units.
When do I have to pay my deposit?
If you have applied to live in a residence hall we cannot assign you a room until your deposit has been paid. If you have submitted an application without a deposit, you can pay your deposit here: https://regstg.com/Registration/Introduction.aspx?rid=97b3d7c5-5ac8-496d-a615-75a2e980d5e9
How do I get my deposit refunded?
After you check out of your room, your deposit will be processed and mailed to you assuming there is no damage to your room or other fees on your student account.
How do the waitlists work?
Complete applications (including a deposit) are processed in the order they are received. Priority is given to students who currently live on campus during the re-application period each spring.
How can I change my meal plan?
You may change meal plans during the first two weeks of the semester by emailing your request to reslife@isu.edu.
When do the halls close for the summer?
You should be checked out of your room by Friday of Finals Week. If you need to make other arrangements, please contact your Resident Director.
When do the halls open in the fall?
Move in day is Thursday, August 22, 2013.
What if I can’t pay the full amount of my housing and meal plan before school starts?
Payment plans can be set up on your BengalWeb account under the Finance tab. Look for the “Enroll in Payment Plan” link under Online Fee Payment section.
How does parking work?
Parking lots that are designated for Housing (green) are patrolled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Parking lots that are designated as General (yellow) are patrolled 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday. How do I set up a tour of the halls?
Call us at 208-282-2120 or email at reslife@isu.edu with the day and time you would like a tour and we would be happy to set one up anytime.
When will I find out about my room assignment?
You will find out what building you have been assigned to in April, exact room and roommate information is sent out at the end of July.
How do I cancel my housing application?
In the event you need to cancel your application, please email us at reslife@isu.edu with that request. The amount of deposit that is refunded to you will depend on the date of your cancellation.

Apartment FAQs

What are the requirements to live in an on-campus apartments?
Students over the age of 19, students who have completed their first year of college, and non-traditional students may qualify to live in an on-campus apartment.
When do I have to pay my deposit?
You will pay your $150 deposit when you accept an apartment offer. The deposit must be paid in full before you check in.
How do I get my deposit refunded?
After you check out of your apartment with your building manager your deposit refund will be processed. Assuming you have no damages or other charges on your account, the university will mail a check to the address you have listed on your Bengal Web account.
How do I pay my rent?
Rent is due on the first of each month. You can pay your rent online through your Bengal Web account, or at the Cashier’s Office in the Administration Building with cash or check. Rent payments will not be accepted in the Housing Office.
How do the waitlists work?
Most apartment complexes have a waitlist throughout the year. You will be added to the waitlist of your first choice apartment and will be notified by email when an apartment becomes available. Priority is given to any student currently living on campus. You are welcome to call or email the office anytime to check on your waitlist standing.

How do I set up a tour of an apartment?
You can directly contact the building manager of the complex you are interested in to set up a tour. Contact information for all the building managers is available here: http://www.isu.edu/housing/staff.shtml
How can I request a roommate?
All of our on-campus apartments are leased to an individual. That person is responsible for the full amount of the rent payment and the care of the apartment. If you would like to have a roommate live with you, you are welcome to do so. Any division of the rent or other charges upon checkout is the responsibility of the tenant. Please let your building manager know when you move in who will be living at the address so we can correctly distribute any mail they may receive.
