Ruth is a native of Idaho and has lived in Boise for over 30 years. She is active in the local and state dietetic associations, and has been president of both. Ruth was also the first chair of the licensure board for dietetics in Idaho. Her hobbies include gardening and cooking, skiing, mountain bike riding, backpacking, river rafting, and traveling.

Research Interests
Health at Every Size Approach, working with inmates at the Women's prison, feeding and advocating for the homeless and low income (food security)
