Undergraduate Program Requirements:
The History curriculum ensures that students study a range of topics and develop analytical skills in research and writing. Students
should confer with an advisor in the History Department each semester
before registration as they choose specific courses. Checklists
for each curriculum program available in History can be obtained in the
History Department office (LA 332).
Students who plan to major in history through the College of Education have slightly different requirements from students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in history through the College of Arts and Sciences. Those in Education should choose an advisor in both the College of Education and the History Department to advise them in designing their program of study.

Mapping Historical Thinking Objectives By Course
The study of history involves more than the acquisition of
knowledge; it also requires developing a way of thinking.
Therefore, the Department of History has developed nine Historical
Thinking Objectives as a guide to the design of the undergraduate
curriculum, and the department’s course offerings help students to
develop towards these goals. This chart shows students what
they can expect from a specific course in terms of whether the course
introduces, reinforces, or emphasizes the department’s Historical
Thinking Objectives. The department uses this chart to ensure
that collectively its course offerings provide students the necessary
training to succeed in the required curriculum.
