How will you continue to integrate an aspect of GK-12 and your partnership with graduate students into your teaching, philosophy, etc.?
We have completely overhauled the curriculum for my Zoology course over the last year. I plan to continue to use the projects and activities as we outlined them. Also, there are many resources we pulled from at ISU that I plan to continue to utilize such as the E. coli lab kit, burying beetles, herpetology lab, etc. In addition, I plan to keep in touch with the Biology department at ISU and invite future GK12 graduate students to come speak with my students about their areas of expertise and any other topics of interest they might have.
How has the GK-12 experience changed you, and how has your participation changed the GK-12 project?
Before my involvement in the GK12 program, I was very apprehensive about asking for help or materials from the university. I wasnít sure what would be appropriate to ask for or who I should talk to or even what I needed for sure. After being involved with GK12 and working so closely with a graduate student, my fears and insecurities have been allayed. I now feel confident in the resources available and the universityís willingness to share both their resources and knowledge with me and my students. As far as my participationís influence on the GK12 project, I am not so sure. I would like to think that I have helped my graduate student to feel more confident in sharing her wealth of information with others. I know she has a lot to offer and is excited about what she does and has to offer to the world of science.
