Spanish

Spoken in twenty-nine countries, four continents, and by more than 450 million people world wide, Spanish is the primary language of the Americas and the second of the United States. The Spanish Program at Idaho State University facilitates proficiency in the language and familiarity with the diverse Hispanic and Latino cultures within the US and beyond its borders. We offer courses in Latin American, Peninsular, and US Latino / Hispanic literature and culture as well as classes in Spanish for the Professions. At ISU, faculty and students work together in the classroom and in the community to promote study abroad and to develop the skills, knowledge and values necessary to lead productive lives as life-long learners in a multicultural nation. Members of the department work closely with state medical and court interpretation programs to keep students abreast of demands for their skills in the public sector. Students may major in Spanish or double major in Spanish and another of Idaho State University's fine programs in Health Care, Computer Science, Political Science, Business, Anthropology, English, Law Enforcement, International Studies or Education. A degree in Spanish from Idaho State University enhances our students' employment opportunities, ensures that they are prepared for graduate studies, and provides the basis for a well-rounded and comprehensive university education.
