Welcome to American Studies at ISU
Overview
The American Studies program offers students an opportunity to study American culture, literature, institutions, and history through the combined perspectives of many disciplines. The program draws upon courses throughout the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences. In the major's American Cultures and America in the World thematic tracks, students are able to obtain a minor as part of their major. Choices include interdisciplinary minors in American Indian Studies, Latino/a Studies, Linguistics, or Women's Studies. Tracks are also available with minors in English, history, or political science.
Graduates can find their places in many fields that require interdisciplinary skills and knowledge: foreign service, civil service, public relations, publishing, social services, law, or writing and editing. An American Studies degree is an excellent springboard to further professional training or graduate study in American Studies and closely related disciplines.
The American Studies program offers the Bachelor of Arts and a Minor in American Studies. Complete descriptions are available in the ISU Undergraduate Catalog.
