Kandis Garland is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene at Idaho State University where she joined the full-time faculty in 2006. She is currently serving as the Health & Safety Coordinator.  She is also the Junior Clinic Coordinator teaching introductory dental hygiene instrumentation theory and application.  Ms. Garland has previously taught ethics & jurisprudence, research methodology, and taught both in junior and senior clinic.  Ms. Garland hails originally from Minnesota and has eleven years of private practice experience.  While in Minnesota, Ms. Garland also served as the interim clinical director and was the co-advisor of the Student Chapter of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (SADHA).  She has presented continuing education courses and research posters at the local, state, and national level.  Her research interests include calibration of faculty, infection control, workforce issues, and student satisfaction.  Ms. Garland was the recipient of the 2005 American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) graduate student internship award, wherein she spent two weeks at ADHA headquarters in Chicago, and two weeks with a corporate sponsor (OMNII Oral Pharmaceuticals) working on a variety of leadership projects.  Ms. Garland is active in her professional association serving as the Idaho Dental Hygienists’ Association Political Action Committee chairman and previously as a Component Delegate and Secretary.  Ms. Garland is a member of numerous professional associations including, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the Idaho Oral Health Alliance, the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, and the American Dental Educator’s Association.
