Clinical Curriculum

Dental hygiene student being supervised in clinical.

Students are required to obtain approximately 1000 hours of preclinical/clinical experience. Under the direct supervision of the faculty, students attain clinical competencies through participation in laboratory and clinical sessions followed by experiences providing direct patient care services. Emphasis is placed on the preventive aspects of dental hygiene.

Residents from throughout southeastern Idaho come to the dental hygiene clinic to receive oral health care services. The clinical experience includes instruction and application in traditional and expanded function procedures. Off-campus facilities which collaborate in dental hygiene student provision of services include the Southeast Idaho District Health Department, Shoshone-Bannock Indian Health Services, Veterans Administration Medical Center, as well as various other community health agencies.
