Ginny Thomas was a champion for both the traditional and nontraditional student and enthusiastically gave of her time, energy, ideas and friendship to support students in their quest for education. Ginny was the Director of the Rural American Scholarship Fund (RASF) from 1997 until she passed on in 2007 after a valiant bout with cancer. Ginny was an integral part of paving the way for students to receive scholarships in the amount of several hundred thousand dollars over the years. Ginny was a person of integrity and understanding, and knew firsthand the difficulty of gaining an education, which was elusive in her own life. Her interest in making sure that students succeeded in their endeavors and reached their goals, especially in the health professions, was always her focus. This symposium and the others to follow are dedicated to this wonderful woman, who has played a vital role in making lives richer, engaged and productive. Ginny Thomas lives in the hearts and minds of many.
