Postdoctoral Research Associate, Joint with Idaho Accelerator Center
The Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC) and the Department of Chemistry at Idaho State University invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate position, pending state board of education approval. An experimental chemist with research interests in radio chemistry, nuclear chemistry or separations chemistry will be considered. This position will support ISU's research effort in isotope production and separations, with an emphasis on medical isotopes. This position will begin January of 2010 or as soon as possible, contingent upon the needs of the successful candidate. Candidates are expected to demonstrate research interest and experience in radio chemistry, nuclear chemistry or separations chemistry. The IAC and the Department of Chemistry have strong collaborations with the ISU's Department of Physics and the Idaho National Laboratory. The Department of Chemistry is an ACS approved department with eleven tenured or tenure track faculty and plays a key role in ISU's state-mandated mission as Idaho's lead institution for the health sciences. The department maintains a strong BS/MS program and has an emerging MS program and has increased the number of chemistry majors more than five-fold in the last few years. The IAC's nuclear-related research includes pure and applied nuclear physics, non-proliferation, homeland security, medical physics, radiation effects, novel radiation beams, materials analysis, waste assay and imaging, health physics, isotope production, nuclear engineering and radio-biology. In addition, ISU has ongoing or developing research collaborations with seven national laboratories, including the Idaho National Laboratory, Los Alamos NL, Sandia NL, Oak Ridge NL, Pacific Northwest NL, Lawrence Livermore NL, and Jefferson Lab. Successful candidates are strongly encouraged to further these collaborative research and education partnerships. Salary is competitive. Located in the heart of the Northern Rockies, ISU is within a few hours drive of Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks, Sun Valley, world-class skiing facilities in northern Utah, and numerous fishing, rafting and mountain-biking opportunities. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Ph.D. required.
