The Sport Clubs Program is a training ground for leadership, organizational development, and teaching with the support of the administration. The emphasis of the program is student leadership and involvement. The ultimate mission is to provide a safe, fun, and educational environment for student to participate in voluntarily.
What is a Sport Club?
Sport Clubs are registered and chartered student organizations of Idaho State University . The Sport Clubs Program is designed to serve individual interests in different sports and recreational activities. These interests can be competitive, recreational, or instructional in nature, as clubs may represent the university in intercollegiate competition or conduct intra-club activities such as practice, instruction, social, and tournament play.
Many Sport Clubs are created because the talent, dedication to the sport and interest demand an opportunity for students other than varsity athletics or because no varsity team exists. Each clubs level of activity is unique and ranges from local to national intercollegiate and/or open competition and is governed by a National Governing Body.
Sport Clubs must have a National Governing Body (NGB) for their sport to provide standards of competition and safety guidelines in their respective sports. The Sport Clubs Program recognizes NGB's from the Olympic Family or an established NGB with developed standards of competition. They must also promote a balanced lifestyle of wellness and physical activity.
Clubs not meeting this definition will be classified in one of the following categories: Academic, cultural, greek life, honorary, professional, religious, service, or special interest and be governed by the Office of Student Organizations. All Sport Clubs are governed by the Department of Campus Recreation.
Benefit of Sport Clubs Participation
Sport Clubs allow individuals to engage or participate in a sport or activity of their own choice at various skill levels. They enhance the development of leadership, organizational, responsibility, and decision-making skills among individuals. The clubs are meant to be a learning experience for the members through their involvement in fundraising, public relations, administration, budgeting, and scheduling, as well as the development of skills in their particular sport. Involvement in a group and team situation helps enhance the students overall education while living in the University setting.
Sport Clubs provide a basis for fellowship and develop a feeling of belonging between individuals and groups. They are designed to foster the development of sound values and the life-enrichment aspects of leisure time.
