Re: Completion of open searches

The College has several active searches for tenure track positions, and many of these will arrive at campus interview stages in the next few weeks. As we make progress on these searches, please attend to the following items.

  1. Prior to inviting candidates for on-campus interviews, I would like to meet with the chair of the search committee and the department chair to review the candidates proposed for interviews. My concerns will focus on the size, quality, and diversity of the candidate pool. These meetings need not be lengthy, but it will be helpful to have the files of the top candidates available for review at these meetings. When necessary, I will make every effort to rearrange my schedule to avoid impeding searches.
  2. Departments should complete Affirmative Action form 3-75 prior to making any informal or formal offer to a candidate. A formal offer to a candidate includes a standard letter of offer, prepared in the Dean’s office, and a supplement letter, prepared by the department chair. Details of the formal offer, including agreements about moving costs and any start-up costs, should be agreed upon and documented before the letters of offer are forwarded to the candidate. In some cases, these agreements will require consultation with the Office of Research and the Office of Academic Affairs.
