ISU Alumni Association

ISU Alumni Association

Message from our Director - October, 2011

K.C. Felt2011 Homecoming was September 26 through October 1. The weather was spectacular and the events were enjoyable for all who attended. The 2011 theme, Bengals- Forever Orange prompted multitudes of alumni and friends to proudly wear their orange throughout the weekend! To kickoff the celebration, the ISU Alumni Association’s “Homecoming Kickoff” at Pinehurst Nursery was held on Thursday. The ladies basketball team and coaches once again conducted the raffle and silent auction! Five Guys Burgers and Fries provided the food and a good time was had by all! The President’s Alumni Recognition Dinner, held Friday evening honored special alumni and friends. Jack R. Wheatley was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Dr. Scott Anderson, ISU Achievement Award, Ann Howell, ISU Distinguished Service Award, W. James and Dr. Karen Y. Johnston, William J. Bartz Award, Bob and Jude Flandro, Homecoming Parade Marshals, Valorie Watkins, Dave Hill were each awarded the President’s Medallion Award and Roger Williams President’s Medallion award was presented to him in absentia. We are saddened that Roger passed away just two weeks after this award was conferred.
The Homecoming Parade on Saturday was exceptionally large and very festive with student and community groups, bands and floats. Even with a last minute loss, the ISU vs. Northern Colorado football game was a great game. The evening concluded with a Steve Eaton concert that brought a wonderful few days of activities and events to an enjoyable conclusion.

The Alumni Association Board of Directors held their Homecoming board meeting on Thursday, September 29, 2011. The board heard university reports, welcomed four new members to the board Jim Francfort, Dr. Josh Gehrke, Dr. Blaine Nisson and Steve Kenyon and bid a thankful farewell to outgoing board members Phil Luckey, Mike Nesbitt and Board President Ted Messmore. The new President of the Board is Deb Stone. The board has plans in the works for more student outreach activity, increased alumni awareness and presence in the Treasure and Magic Valleys and continued involvement with Commencement activities. The board has plans to roll out a new Alumni Membership program in 2012 that will be attractive to all alumni, regardless of where they are located. Look for this in the next few months.

Special congratulations are offered to the newest members of ISU’s Sports Hall of Fame- Boyd Hall, Wayne Hill, Willie Humes, Karen Tharp and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Sylvia Papenberg.

Mark your calendars now to join the ISU Alumni Association at the 2012 Legislative Reception in Boise, Idaho at The Grove Hotel on Thursday, January 26, 2012.

As always, please remember that the ISU Alumni Association is here for you and we stand ready and willing to assist any and all ISU alumni. Follow our activities and events on our Alumni Facebook page, through our Meridian and Pocatello websites or contact us by email at alumni@isu.edu.

Recent Upgrades made to the H.F. Magnuson Alumni House

The home of the ISU Office of Alumni Relations & the ISU Alumni Association has undergone some recent changes, upgrades & remodels.

The Magnuson Alumni House on the Pocatello campus of Idaho State University has a long and storied history. Listed on the Idaho Historical Register, the home of the ISU Office of Alumni Relations and the ISU Alumni Association has undergone many changes, upgrades and remodels. This remains the case even in 2011.

Beginning in November, 2010 the Alumni House more changes were made.  The 2nd level where the Office of Alumni Relations offices are located now has a fresh coat of paint and brand new carpeting in all offices as well as the stairway leading to the offices.  The entry which still has the original hardwood floors was refinished and restored to its original color.

In January, 2011 the Main level that serves as a delightful location for campus receptions and meetings also has brand new carpet and updated painting to the crown molding and trim. The Sun Room on the South side of the living room is now a fully equipped conference room as well. The display cases in the living room now proudly display not only the plaques bearing the names of ISU Alumni honored at Homecoming each year but the vintage Civil War sterling that was gifted to the Alumni offices.

This spring, alumni and friends will be able to very easily identify the Magnuson Alumni House by the new white sandstone rock bearing the name, H. F. Magnuson Alumni House, Idaho State University, which will be in place prior to 2011 Commencement.

Not only does your Office of Alumni Relations and Alumni Association strive to serve as the liaison between alumni and their alma mater but a home to alumni across the nation who return to campus. Alumni returning to Pocatello are welcome at the Magnuson Alumni House anytime! Stop by and visit.

We hope this site will help you reconnect and stay connected with your alma mater.

The ISU Alumni Association exists to provide a lifelong two-way connection between alumni and their university. It acts as the guardian of tradition, keeps members informed about their alma mater and their fellow alumni, provides opportunities for alumni to get together in social and educational settings, and promotes the needs of the university and its students.

Every current and former ISU student who has accumulated at least 24 credits has FREE membership in the Alumni Association.

Founded in 1906, the Alumni Association is governed by a board of directors that meets three times a year. Day-to-day operations are handled by a full-time staff of four at the Office of Alumni Relations located in the H.F. Magnuson Alumni House.
