Master of Science in Dental Hygiene

Admissions Procedures

Students must submit completed applications and supporting materials no later than:

Fall: April 1

Spring: September 1 (anyone considering spring admission needs to contact Dr. Boyd boydlind@isu.edu in advance of the deadline)

  1. Complete the Graduate School application, send supporting documents, and pay associated $55.00 application fee to ISU. Further information available at http://www.isu.edu/departments/graduate/howapply.shtml
  2. Send results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) to the ISU Graduate School . Refer to the test websites to find testing locations and times.
    • GRE/MAT Criteria (GPA calculation based on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work)
      • GPA 3.5 or higer
        • No GRE or MAT required
      • GPA 3.0-3.499
        • Must score in the 40%tile on at least one area of the GRE OR 40%tile MAT
      • GPA 2.5-2.999
        • Combined (Verbal/Quantiative) GRE minimum score 1000 OR 45%tile MAT

To be submitted to the Department of Dental Hygiene, Division of Graduate Studies(address listed below) by the corresponding due date.

  1. Complete the Dental Hygiene Department application form for the Master of Science degree and mail, fax, or e-mail required documents.

      1. Please note, previous education in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration is not a requirement for admission; however, this requirement must be completed prior to enrollment in DENT 616, Progressive Dental Hygiene Practice . If previous education in these pain control methods were completed, then provide evidence of successful completion of classroom and clinical experiences in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration. Evidence could include transcripts, course descriptions, expanded functions or continuing education certificates. If classroom and clinical experience were not part of the coursework, then DENT 598P or an equivalent continuing education course must be completed. Continuing education courses must be approved by the graduate program director. DENT 598P credits may not be applied to a graduate degree.
      2. Send a photocopy of a license to provide evidence of current dental hygiene licensure in good standing.
  2. Submit two recommendation forms:
    • One recommendation must be completed by an individual who has personal knowledge of the applicant’s clinical skills such as a faculty member from a dental hygiene program, employer, or colleague.

    • Second recommendation must be completed by an individual who has personal knowledge of the applicant’s academic and professional qualifications for graduate study such as a faculty member, officer of a professional association or colleague.

  3. Official transcripts that are sent to the Graduate School will be evaluated to provide evidence of:
    • Graduation from an accredited entry-level dental hygiene program
    • Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene or related field
    • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in upper division and dental hygiene course work
  4. Complete a telephone or personal interview.

  $297/credit (part-time-->7 credits or less)
     
Nonresident* $7825.00 (full-time-->8 credits or more)
  $437/credit (part-time-->7 credits or less)

Course Fees:
    
  • Dental Hygiene MS - Didactic = $80 per credit
  • Dental Hygiene MS - Clinical = $318 per credit
  • Dental Hygiene MS - Thesis = $160 per credit
 
Student health insurance: May be waived w/documentation of insurance coverage
