Scholarship Information

Department of Dental Hygiene and Division of Health Sciences:

A variety of scholarships are available to assist students who have been accepted into the dental hygiene program for the junior and senior years of study. Application deadline for fall scholarships is November 15 and the deadline for spring scholarships is April 15 annually. A full list of scholarships is available at the ISU Scholarships Office. First Year Dental Hygiene Students:

DAVID F. MCCUNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship was initiated as a memorial tribute to Dr. David F. McCune, supervising dentist, 1979-1998. This scholarship is to assist junior students who have had dental assisting experience and have been offered a seat in the dental hygiene program. Financial need and past academic performance will be given equal weight.

RICHARD AND LUCY MEEK ENDOWMENT: Variable amount scholarship awarded an incoming junior or senior. Must be a resident of Idaho. Preference will be given to a single parent or married student.

DRS. GORDON J. CHRISTENSEN, ERROL K. ORMOND, AND GREGORY E. ROMRIELL ENDOWMENT: Variable amount scholarship awarded in the spring to a junior or senior student. The student must be enrolled in the dental hygiene program, demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to students who have graduated from "a" Pocatello high school.

Second Year Dental Hygiene Students:

IDAHO DENTAL HYGIENISTS' ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: Three $1000 scholarships are annually awarded to senior dental hygiene students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, are in good standing, and financial need.

ACE DENTAL HYGIENE SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP: Variable amount scholarship awarded in the spring semester of the senior year to a student in good standing who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA by the end of the junior year, has demonstrated financial need, and not currently receiving any other scholarship. This is to be used for WREB fees.

HAROLD AND VANDA JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP: Variable amount scholarship awarded a senior student who is not currently on or has never been on academic probation within the dental hygiene department and demonstrates financial need.

SHELLY SIMPSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This variable-amount scholarship was established in memory of a former dental hygiene student and is annually awarded to a senior student. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

GRETCHEN HESS PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT FUND ENDOWMENT: Variable amount scholarship awarded a senior undergraduate or graduate student seeking professional advancement.

Division of Health Science:

ASISU SCHOLASTIC SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship can be awarded to any class level but must be a full-time student with a GPA of 2.75 or undergraduates and 3.00 for graduate students. Applications are due the Friday of midterm week fall and spring semester each year.

DISCRETIONARY SCHOLARSHIP, DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES: This scholarship can be awarded to any student in any department in the Division of Health Sciences. Students must be enrolled fulltime. Applications are due the Friday of midterm week fall and spring semester each year.

American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) Institute for Oral Health:

The ADHA Institute Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to dental hygiene students who can demonstrate a commitment to further the discipline of dental hygiene through academic achievement, professional excellence, and a desire to improve the public's overall health. Applications are available October 1 of each year; the deadline for Institute Scholarship applications is February 1. All students who meet the requirements listed under the "Eligibility" section of the website are encouraged to apply. Award recipients will be notified on or after July 1.
