Prerequisite Information and Advising

The dental hygiene program fosters student growth, promotes development of critical and ethical judgment, and encourages life-long learning. Prior to beginning the professional portion of the program, students seeking admission to dental hygiene are required to complete specific courses designated by the department in addition to university general education requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree.

The prerequisite courses are presented in a suggested sequence format so that students who follow this proposed curriculum will complete all prerequisite courses and university required goal courses in a two-year period. Students attending other accredited institutions should utilize the ISU Bulletin or contact the ISU Dental Hygiene Department if questions arise when selecting the following courses or their equivalent. Students need an academic advisor to prepare for the dental hygiene program. Contact the department to receive an advisor assignment.

Advising:
Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene are encouraged to meet with a faculty advisor in the Dental Hygiene Department early in the academic career. Advising early in the academic career aids in completion of all core and general education courses. Advising can be accomplished by telephone or in person and scheduled through the Department at (208) 282-3796.

Prior to submitting an application for considered acceptance into the program, all students MUST meet with a dental hygiene advisor at least once to assure that prerequisite requirements are completed.
