A Tradition of Excellence
While the James M. Rupp Debate Society is relatively young, we have already built a
tradition of excellence in NDT/CEDA debate. We excel at both regional and national tournaments.
Competitive highlights include:
- Ranked 16th nationally in Varsity NDT points, 2004-2005.
- 3rd Place CEDA National Championship, 2006.
- First Round At Large Bid to the NDT, 2005-2006. ISU is the first team in the Rocky Mountain Region to receive this honor since 1989.
- 3rd Place, Harvard, Fall 2006.
- 3rd Place, Wake Forest, Fall 2005.
- Overall, the team has been consistently ranked in the top 25 college debate teams.
- ISU regularly clears teams to elimination debates at local regional and national tournaments (Harvard, Kentucky, Wake, Gonzaga, Wyoming, Northridge, Pepperdine, CEDA Nationals, & The NDT).
- ISU qualified 2 teams to the National Debate Tournament for each of the last four years.
- ISU Debate has won the district points championship for each of the last four years.
- Debaters have earned numerous speaker awards including 2nd at Harvard, Fall 2006; 3rd at Wake, Fall 2006; 2nd at Gonzaga, Fall 2006; 6th speaker at CEDA Nationals in 2005 and 2 in the top 10 at Wake, Fall 2005.
- The team has won over 180 individual and team awards in the last 5 years including 38 1st Place Awards.
