Tidbits along the trek
Day 1 - Snow leopard attacked one of our Yaks who then gored one of the horses. We had to treat the horses for the entire trek.
Day 2 - The Kumboo rodeo begins. Both Kyle and Ike are thrown off their horses.
Day 3-4 - Kyle's first day in the basket. This was the worst smelling place we visited. All along the hills you see little fires glowing at night from where people lived.
Day 5-7 - Entered Sagarmatha National Park which is guarded with armed guards. Climbed our first big hill and went across the first very high bridge. Spent 3 days in Namche Bazaar sight seeing and eating non trail food.
Day 8 - This is where Tom got bucked off when his horse stepped on a rock. Saw the first Tar and Musk deer. Really nasty hill with steep steps up and to the right. Looking from below it looked as if people were walking off the mountain.
Day 9-11 - This was where we established HOG Beach at the top of a huge hill. Kyle gets tired of riding and walks the last part of Tengboche hill on his knees. The Sherpa play the highest altitude touch football game known.
Day 12-14 - The summit team meet the trekkers. First water buffalo feed.
Day 15-17 - We see the Japanese climber that died, flown out on a helicopter. The CBS crew treats us to Yak steaks. We lose the trees - only shrubs and grass.
Day 18-19 - Climbing on the edge of the glacier into the 8,000 meter inn. Yaks arrive to transport Ike and Tom. At the altitude, the horse cannot survive.
Day 20 - Travel across huge rocks all day. Very cold all day. The best views of the mountains off to our right. In Gorak Shep we hear avalanches all day and night. We have the full moon rising over Ala Patar.
Day 21 - Trek into base camp in a blizzard.
