Writing Center - Making Appointments
For an appointment with a writing tutor, call (208) 282-3662 in Pocatello or (208) 282-7925 in Idaho Falls.
Appointments are usually necessary at the Pocatello Writing Center to assure time with a tutor, although it's sometimes possible to meet with a tutor on a walk-in basis. Most tutoring sessions at the Idaho Falls Writing Center are on a walk-in basis, although appointments are encouraged--especially during the peak weeks of the semester.
Writing Center appointments are normally half an hour long. For students whose native language is not English, hour-long appointments may be arranged. Students with learning disabilities may also arrange for one-hour appointments.
Plan to bring your assignment, any pre-writing, notes or drafts you may have, or just your beginning ideas. Previously written papers with teacher comments may also be useful.
Tutors try to tailor the session to your requirements, so it helps to know what you want to work on.
The tutors will not simply make "corrections" on your papers, but they will show you how to find and correct patterns of error, if that is what you are interested in working on.
Tutors will not engage in discussion about instructors or grades. Instead, the Writing Center works in partnership with teachers to help you fulfill your assignments.
If you find you cannot keep an appointment, please call to cancel at least four hours before the appointment is scheduled. We will then be able to allow someone else to fill your time slot. Repeated failure to observe this courtesy will mean a loss of appointment privileges for the current semester.
