Our Mission
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CeTL) supports student education and academic pursuits at all levels where learning occurs at Idaho State University.
The Center for Teaching and Learning's mission is to:
- assist students in improving the intellectual and academic skills necessary for scholastic excellence and long-term retention
- serve as a resource for faculty teaching
- support learning and teaching across the university curriculum.
Our mission reflects the need for students to communicate effectively and to develop sound reasoning abilities through effective teaching as a university-wide endeavor.
Learning
The CeTL strives to understand students' learning needs and to create effective learning situations through
- individualized assistance in content areas coursework as well as math, writing, English language and college learning skills.
- integrated campus learning experiences including the First Year Seminar, Honors, and C.L.A.S.S. programs.
Teaching
The CeTL promotes excellence in teaching by
- coordinating university resources and providing support for teaching and curricular development.
- coordinating and providing faculty development resources, including technology aimed at implementing course and curricular goals.
- encouraging faculty reflection upon teaching methodology.
Community
The Center works to build and strengthen relationships between students, faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as members of the larger community.
A strong sense of community contributes to an environment in which learning, teaching, and scholarship flourish.
