The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program serves all non-native speakers of English enrolled at Idaho State University. The ESOL Program offers a wide variety of assistance, e.g.,

Our Focus

American language and culture for academic and professional purposes is our focus. The spoken language for academic, professional and social purposes is our specialty.

Our Goal

We help all non-native speakers of English enrolled at Idaho State University succeed in their undergraduate, graduate and training programs.

Our Students

Anyone enrolled at Idaho State University for whom English is not the primary language can request services. Our services are free of charge, except for-credit-courses (registered through the regular university registration system).

Our Director

Lynn Leonard has taught non-native speakers of English in Spain, Nigeria, and the USA. Lynn holds degrees and certifications from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale, IL); University of Ibadan, Nigeria; U. of Oslo, Norway; U. of London, England; Boston, MA; School for Teaching ESL (Seattle U). Lynn has also served as the advisor to the African Students Association at Idaho State University.

Ms. Leonard founded ESL/ESOL Program at Idaho State University in 1992 with a mission to serve all enrolled at Idaho State University for whom English is not the primary language. Since ESL/ESOL’s conception its importance on campus has grown significantly.
