Learning Strategies - Workshops
Learning strategies workshops, one hour in length, are offered during the fall and spring semesters and are available to all students, faculty and staff. Topics for these workshops include: time management, memory and learning strategies, note taking and textbook reading strategies, test preparation, test taking and test anxiety. The announcement of the workshop dates, times and places are advertised throughout the semester. In addition, Learning Strategies Instructors are available to offer workshops to members of clubs or organizations and any academic course. Students, faculty or staff can contact the Center for Teaching and Learning directly for assistance in providing such workshops.
Note Taking for Lecture Courses
This workshop will focus on listening skills and the Cornell System for note taking.
Time Management Strategies
The focus of this workshop will be on managing school, work people, and personal time while still having time for fun.
Memory and Learning Style Strategies
This workshop will include practical suggestions for learning and recalling course material (reading, notes, etc.).
Learning Strategies for College
This workshop will cover faculty expectations of university students and study skills recommendations to be successful.
Test Preparation
This workshop will focus on what to study, when to study, and how to study in order to be prepared for a test.
Managing Test Anxiety
This workshop will suggest strategies to use when test anxiety interferes with test taking.
Gearing Up for Finals
This workshop will encourage students to develop a plan and use strategies most likely to enhance success.
GRE Workshops
Instructors provide workshops for the Graduate Record Examination. These workshops encourage students to have a strategy for taking the qualitative and quantitative sections of the GRE, introduce strategies for the different sections and encourage examinees to prepare themselves in advance by taking practice tests. Test taking strategies and test anxiety are among the topics covered for these workshops. Academic colleges and departments can contact the Center for Teaching and Learning for assistance.
