Program Options & Length:
- • The CSDT (Computer Software Design Technology) program begins in August (Fall Semester) and admits up to 25 students each year
- • Program length is 4 1/2 semesters (1st Fall Semester (16 weeks), 1st Spring Semester (16 weeks), Summer Semester (8 weeks), 2nd Fall Semester (16 weeks), 2nd Spring Semester (16 weeks))
- • Students enroll in the program each Fall as a "cohort" and move through all classes, in sequence, as a group
- • Program hours generally run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. but open time slots are available during that time for students to take academic courses (see Instructors for more information on each semester's lecture and lab schedule)

Program Description
Students in this program learn to design and develop stand-alone and web-based computer applications for all kinds of business needs. They also learn how to upgrade and modify existing applications, as well as how to function well in a team environment. The Computer Software Development Technology program is committed to remaining current in its course offerings and undergoes a formal yearly committee review to ensure that what is taught in the program continues to meet industry standards and technological needs.
Instructors in this program have decades of industry experience. The books, software and other materials used in our courses are identical to those found in typical business software development environments. Students will leave this program with a solid understanding of programming and database design concepts, and hands-on experience with many of the most sought-after modern programming languages and technologies.
Currently, the program teaches the following languages and software development technologies:
- • HTML and CSS (including HTML5 and CSS3)
- • ASP classic, PHP and ASP.NET
- • JavaScript, JQuery and AJAX
- • C#, C++ and JAVA
- • XML and JSON
- • Microsoft SQL (including TransactSQL) and MySQL
- • Server Operating Systems and Web Server Software setup and configuration (Linux and Windows environments)
- • Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse IDEs
- • Systems Analysis and Design (Software Design LifeCycles)
- • Cross-platform programming for Mobile Devices (Smart Phones and Tablets)

Career Opportunities
On average, 89% of graduates in the past two years have found employment in programming/IT related job fields. About 1,455 computer software technicians work in this occupation area in the state of Idaho. The median income for this occupation in Idaho is $51,830 and the median income nation-wide is $69,620 (data obtained from Idaho Career Information Systems). For graduates who wish to further their education, the College of Technology offers the Bachelor of Applied Science/Applied Technology degree. All coursework completed in this program can be transferred to the BAT/BAS degree program. Graduates may also transfer their completed Associates degree credits to a more specialized programming degree program elsewhere (for example, game design).
Cost of Attendance
Fees apply to the current Idaho State University fee schedule which includes mandatory student health insurance. Students with existing health insurance coverage may waive student health insurance. Waivers are available at http://www.isu.edu/stuhlth/insurance/.

Admission Steps
- Complete an application for admission and pay fees online. Be sure to click on the Professional Technical Application and select your program choice. * If you are applying for the Associate Degree Registered Nurse program, the Respiratory Therapy program or a bachelor's degree offered through the College of Technology, go to the Undergraduate Application.
- High school graduation or GED is required. Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED scores (Not required if you have submitted proof of 14 or more academic credits from an accredited institution of higher education).
- Submit an official college transcript from each accredited institution of higher education that you have attended.
- Either COMPASS or ACT scores.
- Complete the COMPASS placement test. This test enables us to place
you in the appropriate classes to enhance your success in college.
or - Submit ACT scores, (valid for seven years from date of testing).

You may apply for financial aid, scholarships, grants, and loans to help finance your college education. When you pay registration fees, you are a student of Idaho State University with the privileges and responsibilities of a college student.
