This course examines the skills necessary for successful planning, research, and the use of presentation tools and methods to achieve successful business communication. The course is designed to aid adult learners in acquiring and improving the core competencies that are necessary for business communication. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to plan, develop, and execute both oral and written communication methods.

COMPUTERS & INFORMATION PROCESSING IN THE BUSINESS WORLD
Learn the fundamentals of computer systems and the role of information processing in today’s business environment. An overview in “non-technical” language is presented on information systems, systems development, operating systems and programming, databases, and networking and telecommunications, including the Internet.

FUNDAMENTALS OF BUSINESS SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT
Gain a fundamental understanding of computer systems and information processing in the business environment. The course will present an overview of information systems and their application in business. Designed for the general business population, you’ll acquire a solid background in information systems analysis and design techniques to implement in your company or business. Students will have the opportunity to understand the role and impact of information systems in everyday business activities.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE WORKPLACE
Emotional intelligence has been linked to many aspects of job performance and satisfaction with work. This course will address the importance of emotional intelligence and skills needed to further development of emotional intelligence in the workplace. Through group activities and discussion, class members will have the opportunity to learn additional skills in dealing with their own emotions, as well as those of coworkers.

CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH IN THE WORKPLACE
Come and join us for a fun afternoon of Spanish for the workplace. Discover how many Spanish words you already know from cognates (Spanish and English words that sound alike). Learn how to construct a basic Spanish sentence that is easy to remember when you are put on the spot at work. The four hour workshop will include role plays, group activities, videos, lectures and listening activities. Participants will be solicited before the class begins to share their conversational needs and goals and we will do our best to address your needs!

Consistently, producers and agriculture professionals tell us they are seeking information and resources on liability issues, forming and managing cooperatives, and direct marketing their products or services. Taking this into consideration, Rural Roots, in partnership with University of Idaho Extension, USDA Risk Management Agency and the Western Center for Risk Management Education, will host a workshop in Pocatello on marketing skills for farmers and their enterprises. Three Rivers Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council and Idaho State University’s Division of Continuing Education are co-sponsoring the workshop in our area. Travel through the eight steps of the selling/planning process, including identifying markets and prospects, communications skills needed to approach clients, information gathering through fact-finding, analyzing the information, developing and presenting the financial plan, and implementing and servicing the plan.
