College of Business

Health Informatics (HI)

This interdisciplinary degree program began in 2008. It is the first degree program at Idaho State University that two accredited colleges - The College of Business (COB) and the Kasiska School of Health Professions (KSHP) - jointly administer and teach.

Federal stimulus money and the emphasis on medical records are projected to lead to 51,000 additional jobs in health care information technology over the next three years.

Health Informatics Major

Combining courses in health care administration, general business and computer information systems, the Health Informatics degree prepares students to work in hospitals, health clinics, doctors' offices and other health-related organizations.

Your Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Health Informatics will enable you to immediately take your place as a valued professional in a health care organization of any size.

Coursework

The HI major includes a broad education in business, but also includes courses in Business Informatics (INFO) and Health Care Administration (HCA). INFO courses are designed to provide the student with a solid foundation in systems development, database, network administration, computer security, and project management.

HCA courses provide a foundation of knowledge about the United States health system and the role of information systems in the health care industry. All of this is put into practice with a semester-long practicum, where students gain practical experience in a health care organization.
