Bachelor of Science Degree
The Clinical Laboratory Sciences - Medical Technology (CLS - MT) program at Idaho State University (ISU) is offered within the department of Biological Sciences. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) prepares the student to enter the field of clinical laboratory science as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist and for graduate level programs in CLS or related disciplines. Clinical Laboratory Scientists perform, develop, correlate and assure validity of laboratory information; direct and supervise clinical laboratory resources and operations; and collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Clinical Laboratory Scientists practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, private laboratories, research and development laboratories, public health laboratories, regulatory agencies, and also find positions in health care education and management. The CLS program is accredited by NAACLS, (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science) Chicago, Illinois.

Degree alternatives: The CLS Program at ISU offers several degree alternatives at the baccalaureate level including:
  1. BS in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS);
  2. A second BS in CLS for students who have completed degree requirements in related disciplines from accredited institutions and take the 38 credit Professional Block of CLS courses.
A total of 128 credits minimum is required for graduation. Award of a second BS in CLS requires 38 credits in CLS earned beyond the completion of the requirements for the first degree. Credits used for the second degree cannot be used to fulfill requirements for the first degree.

This program is particularly attractive for students who wish to be prepared for a wide variety of possible career choices or graduate opportunities.

All ISU general education requirements must be completed before beginning the clinical experience internship.
