| HISTORY: The Civil
Engineering Technology Program has been in existence for over 30 years
at Idaho State University. It is the only Civil Engineering Technology
School located in the State of Idaho.
DESCRIPTION: Civil Engineering Technicians collect field data using electronic total stations, levels, global positioning surveying (GPS) and other equipment. This information is used in the preparation of survey and engineering maps and drawings. They plan, design, inspect and provided surveying services on a wide variety of engineering projects. These projects include highways, bridges, building, airfields, water and sewer systems, residential and commercial subdivisions and other facilities. APTITUDES / INTERESTS: Students will learn theoretical and technical skills in areas of mathematics, CAD drafting, materials testing and inspection, physics, surveying and roadway design. Students should be able to visualize various shapes and forms, concentrate on details, use judgment in problem solving situations and work in a team environment. This field in great for individuals who like to work in a scientific and technical atmosphere. Students should enjoy work which requires great precision and accuracy, enjoy working with technical equipment including computers, surveying and testing equipment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Engineering Technicians should be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials over various terrain. ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
