Classified Employees Council

Some Common Questions & Answers:

Meet monthly and discuss current issues, employee concerns or problems presented to CEC members.
Investigate and inform employee/employees on suggested solutions. Our mission this year is simply to reach and inform more ISU employees on all important issues, by developing new ways of communicating. The more voices the louder the sound…

Council members are also assigned to be committee members for various University concerns;
Parking board, Professional Leave Committee, Handicapped & Accessibility Committee, Cultural Events, Safety Committee, etc.

Q. How long is the term length of a CEC member?
Each member is elected for a 3 year term unless special circumstances arise. Ballot elections are held each spring. A member may be nominated and elected by the council, for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary after serving on the council 1 year. Members are chosen from several different classifications and represent the ratio of employees in these specified areas:
Classification areas are: Professional Non-Faculty, Secretarial/Clerical, Technical/Paraprofessional, Skilled Crafts, and Service/Maintenance.

Q. How often do they meet?
The fourth Tuesday of each month from September through May with the possibility of summer meetings.

Q. Who should I contact with a problem or concern?
Any Council Member whom you feel most comfortable talking with, but probably one who represents your same classification. E-mail has become a wonderful tool but a personal visit, phone call, or letter will do as well.

Q. How are problems handled?
Each problem is given as much personal attention by the someone on the council as time permits. Priority is given whenever possible and investigations are conducted with a report to the council. Hopefully with concerns being addressed, solutions become clear and reasonable, and we benefit from a more valuable, less stressful, working environment at ISU. It is always strongly emphasized that comments and incoming information is kept confidential!

We still have much to do in the future and the key WORD of the future is ACCOUNTABILITY! We all need to be accountable as state employees and to see that others (elected Officials, Leaders, and Administrators) are held to their promises. We are all responsible in part for the future.
