Mass Communication Hosts Telethon for Primary Children’s Medical Center

On June 5 the James E. Rogers Department of Mass Communication hosted the annual local telethon for the Children’s Miracle Network. A record $228,875 was raised for the Primary Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Salt Lake City. (read more...)

Emeritus Sociology Professor James Aho Publishes New Book

Sociological Trespasses: Interrogating Sin and Flesh, released in June 2011, is the latest book by emeritus Sociology Professor James Aho. In his book, Aho explores how people use various kinds of idols to deal with their existential dread and vacuity. These socially constructed fetishes include everything from races (e.g, Aryan man), nations, and enemies, to work schedules, the natural environment, biomedicine, gold, and the opinion and judgment of the anonymous “They”. School of Performing Arts Director Thom Hasenpflug Will Perform at International Convention

Dr. Thom Hasenpflug, Associate Professor of Music and Director of the School of Performing Arts, has accepted a historic invitation to perform in November at the 2011 Percussive Arts Society International Convention as part of the 50th anniversary spectacular. Held this year in Indianapolis, the convention will include a festival marimba orchestra made up of 50 top professionals from all over the United States, including Dr. Hasenpflug. (read more...)

History Professor Erika Kuhlman Named Editor of Journal

The Peace History Society has named Erika Kuhlman, Associate Professor of History, as the editor of its journal Peace and Change: A Journal of Peace Research. The journal, founded in 1972, publishes scholarly and interpretive articles on the achievement of a peaceful, just, and humane society. International and interdisciplinary in focus, the journal bridges the gap between peace researchers, educators, and activists. (read more...)
