INTEGRATED RESEARCH CENTER

The Integrated Research Center (IRC) is a workspace environment provided to ISU faculty and students to conduct research and creative activities.  It is located in the basement of the Business Administration building.

The IRC contains equipment such as an eye-tracker, 3D printer, a scanner-plotter, EEG, and a 10 PC computer lab.  The IRC also provides a variety of software resources including, SurveyMonkey, Experiment Builder, 3D Builder, Objet Studio, PosterArtsit Lite, and GIMP.

EYE-TRACKER

The Eyelink 1000 Plus is able to track participants’ eye movement while they look at stimuli, read passages, or watch videos.  Accompanying software allows the experimenter to build their own experiment and then test it.  Detailed tutorials are available for those not familiar with the equipment. 

 

The Eyelink 1000 Plus has its own room within the IRC for privacy during experiments.  It has a multitude of possibilities and applications for research.  ISU students and faculty are welcome to schedule research time with the Eyelink 1000 Plus.

3D PRINTER

The 3D Printer, the Objet30 Prime, is located in the basement of the Business Administration building, down the hall from the IRC main room.

 

3D printing is a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model.  The 3D model is created on a computer through the use of special software.  Once completed, the model is sent to the printer which prints the 3D form layer by layer.

 

The 3D printer is a sensitive machine and requires special care from those who us it.  Tutorials and instructions are available and should be correctly followed in order to ensure the longevity of the 3D printer.

SCANNER-PLOTTER

The scanner-plotter is an imagePROGRAF iPF780 and capable of printing high quality posters and banners.  It is supplied by a large roll of paper, with printing maximums set at 36 inches wide by 708 inches long.  The scanner-plotter is also able to scan printed items and produce printed copies.

 

PosterArtist lite is a design software that can be used in conjunction with the scanner-plotter to design posters and banners.   It contains a variety of templates and gives the user the power to change colors, text, shapes, and layout, as well as insert pictures and clipart. GIMP software is housed on the computer connected to the scanner-plotter, along with PosterArtist lite, and allows you to edit photos.  The scanner-plotter can also print posters and banners that have been designed on different software and saved to a flash drive in a TIFF format.

 

The scanner-plotter and accompanying software are very user friendly but tutorials are available for your convenience.

EEG

Electoencephalogram (EEG) is used to track and detect the electrical activity of the brain.  A cap, which is placed on the participant’s head, is connected to multiple machines that track the electrical activity in the brain.  As the experiment is conducted, the experimenter can see what areas of the brain are in use.

 

The IRC’s EEG machine is not housed in the Business Administration building but rather in the Nursing Building on ISU’s Pocatello campus.  It is available to students and faculty for research purposes.
