We are looking for male teenagers (ages 14-17) and their parents to participate in a study investigating how environmental influences affect how adolescents make decisions.
If you and your child agree to participate, you will be asked to complete several questionnaires and decision-making tasks. Additionally, we will ask to collect, from your child, two saliva samples to measure levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. The study, conducted by researchers in the Department of Psychology at Idaho State University will take approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete. Parent-child pairs will be compensated $35, and your child has the opportunity to earn additional compensation. In order to qualify for this study, your child must be a male, between 14-17 years old and you are the parent/legal guardian. English must be your first language. Your child must not have a current diagnosis of psychiatric disorders (e.g. depression, psychosis, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, etc.) or metabolic disorders (e.g., ., diabetes, Addison's disease, Cushing's disease, etc.). Your child cannot be taking currently medications involving corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone) or psychiatric medications (e.g., anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, etc).
