Dietetics Internship
The Boise Dietetic Internship is open to graduates nationwide who have completed a prescribed course of study in foods and nutrition, called the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), accredited by the American Dietetic Association. This undergraduate degree is offered on the ISU campus in Pocatello.
Students must apply for admission to the Dietetic Internship. Eight intern positions will be accepted once yearly, in the fall. Students must apply for admission the previous spring. The internship is 33 weeks long, two semesters, and follows the academic year.
Interns spend approximately 12 weeks in a clinical rotation, 8 weeks in a food service management rotation, and 12 weeks in various community rotations. Interns are supervised by preceptors at local hospitals, health departments, outpatient clinics, nursing homes and food service facilities. Interns spend the first week of the internship in orientation and one day a week in the classroom during the internship.
A half-time clinical coordinator of the Dietetic Internship in Boise coordinates classroom activities, preceptors and facilities. Also available for support, are two adjunct faculty; one in Clinical Dietetics, and one in Food Systems Management. The Internship Director and other faculty at the Pocatello ISU campus are available to students via distance learning classrooms on class days.
