The Department of Biological Sciences

Undergraduate Programs

We provide an innovative, rigorous and integrated undergraduate experience. ISU is Idaho's center for education in the health professions. Over 90% of our students applying to M.D. and D.O. programs are accepted, a figure nearly twice the national average. Other students interested in the environmental sciences or organismal biology find ample opportunities to gain field or laboratory research experience as undergraduates at ISU.

We have been particularly successful at including undergraduate students in our research endeavors. Undergraduates present their research at regional, national and international meetings. Many undergraduates author or co-author research articles in in top-level, peer-reviewed journals.

Undergraduate Degree Programs

We offer B.S. and B.A. degrees in Biology and BS degrees in Biochemistry, Botany, Ecology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Zoology for more than 800 full-time students each semester. In addition, we instruct students from other colleges of the University, particularly with courses (e.g., Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology) for the many health related programs on campus.

If you are now declaring a major in our Department you should use the ‘Current’ program requirements. If you declared a major prior to June 2003 you have the option of graduating under the ‘Previous’ program requirements. Selecting the degree name will take you to the respective description in the current academic catalog.
