ADVERTISING ALCOHOL: CALLING THE SHOTS, SECOND EDITION 055621
The alcohol industry spends over two billion dollars annually on ads, and alcohol is the nation's number one hard drug for all ages. This title presents a detailed visual and conceptual analysis of why this advertising does much more than simply tell us what we can buy. We see how the fears and needs of young people are used to create the young, new alcohol consumer. This film demonstrates how some ads deliberately disguise the warning signs of problem drinking and falsely links alco- hol with precisely those qualities - creativity, sexual fulfillment, success, happiness, prestige, athletic ability - that the abuse of al- cohol diminishes and destroys. In an entertaining and convincing way, Jean Kilbourne teaches us about alcohol and ads. Her presentation mot- ivates us to take action in our own and society's interests.
