A Profile of ISU

Idaho State University is a public, research-intensive institution in Pocatello, a metropolitan area of about 75,000 nestled in the mountains of southeastern Idaho. ISU's top-flight academic programs include nationally recognized courses of study in business, pharmacy and the health professions. ISU’s teacher education programs are among the state’s most productive, and ISU is among the top five states in the proportion of teachers with national board certification. Programs in the arts and sciences disciplines are diverse, with 84 degree programs offered from the associate to doctoral levels in subjects ranging from health physics to mass communication. Advanced technical education is offered through programs in engineering and the College of Technology, which prepares students for employment in business and industry.

ISU provides undergraduate and graduate education in 270 degree and certificate programs to approximately 14,000 students not only in Pocatello but also at ISU centers in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Boise, and to outlying communities via state-of-the-art compressed and IP audio/video technology. The permanent faculty includes over 600 professionals supported by over 1200 staff members.

The university also is home to the Idaho Museum of Natural History, the ISU Business and Research Park, and the Idaho Accelerator Center, which includes the largest collection of research linear accelerators in North America. ISU is a research and education partner of the Idaho National Environmental and Engineering Laboratory and has regional research collaborations through the Inland Northwest Research Alliance. University facilities offer venues for musical and theatrical performances that attract audiences from throughout the region.
