The Arts at ISU
Spring Choir Concert
The Choirs of Idaho State University will present their Spring Choral Concert on Friday, April 19th at 7:30 p.m. The ISU Women's Choir, Chamber Choir, and Concert Choir will perform an eclectic program in the splendid acoustics of Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center on the Campus of Idaho State University.
The ISU Women's Choir, conducted by Professor Kathleen Lane, will end the academic year with selections that span four hundred years, and four very different styles. The program will begin with a lighthearted French madrigal from the sixteenth century; Il est bel e bon by Passereau, followed by a contemporary Latin composition, Tota pulchra es Maria, by Maurice Duruflé. Based on an actual Gregorian chant, this contemporary composition evokes a cathedral sound from the middle ages. Also featured will be a duet by the great nineteenth century Romantic master, Felix Mendelssohn.
Senior Cassie Vandersloot will be featured on an ethnic flute solo, in the new age Adiemus by contemporary composer Karl Jenkins. The choir will conclude their portion of the evening's program, with an arrangement of a Gaelic blessing entitled Deep Peace, by Andrew Carter. Carol Hotrum is featured as pianist for the ISU Women's Choir.
Dr. Scott Anderson will lead the 22-voice select ISU Chamber Choir in performance of William Byrd's six-voice motet HAEC DIES, and the ethereal setting of LUX AETERNA by American composer Edwin Fissinger. Pianist Abbi Clark will be featured on DES TAGES WEIHE and DER TANZ, two part song settings by Franz Schubert.
Anderson and the ISU Concert Choir will present LET THEIR CELESTIAL CONCERTS ALL UNITE, George Frideric Handel's robust chorus from his oratorio SAMPSON. The Concert Choir will also perform AVE VERUM CORPUS by William Byrd, and the FIVE HEBREW LOVE SONGS by Eric Whitacre which will feature Dr. Keum Hwa Cha on violin and Abbi Clark on piano. The Concert Choir will close their program with the classic spiritual arrangement of the "work song" SOON AH WILL BE DONE by William Dawson.
