GALLERIES AND EVENTS

The mission of the Idaho State University art galleries is to enrich the education of students and engage surrounding communities through exhibitions and related events. The galleries provide opportunity for critical looking and thinking with a focus on interdisciplinarity and cross-cultural exchange.

 

compARTment GALLERY

Open Monday – Friday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The CompARTment Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the Fine Arts Building, is a teaching and experimental space for display of artwork and research by ISU students.

The compARTment Gallery is reserved for the ART à la carte Chili Dinner and Silent Art Auction.

March 2nd to March 18th
BA Senior Exhibition for Ashley Delonas, compARTment Gallery.
Gallery Reception: Tuesday March 1st from 6 – 8:00pm.

March 30th to April 8th
BAS Senior Thesis Exhibition for Costner Kude, the compARTment Gallery.

MFA Thesis Exhibition for Jeff Thompson, compARTment Gallery.

JOHN B. DAVIS GALLERY

Open Monday – Friday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The John B. Davis Gallery, located on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building, is dedicated to exhibiting original artwork that advances knowledge of contemporary art production and display by emerging and established artists.

Preparations for AUAESC and Annual High School Art Exhibition including collecting, judging, and hanging the artwork.

The Annual Undergraduate Art Exhibition & Scholarship Competition, John B. Davis Gallery.
The Annual High School Art Exhibition, Department of Art 4th Floor Foyer.

May 2nd to May 6th
Artwork Pick Up for both AUAESC and High School Exhibitions in The John B. Davis Gallery from 11am to 6pm.

Latino Americans: 500 Years
Gallery Reception: Tuesday, January 19th from 5 – 7:00pm.
Juror: Contemporary Latina fiber artist, Consuelo J. Underwood
This show is generously supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association and coincides with year-long programming, funded by the NEH, centering around the PBS series Latino Americans: 500 Years of History.

February 16th to March 18th
Jill AnnieMargaret: Hairstory–Herstory
Gallery Reception: Tuesday, February 16th from 5 – 7:00pm.
"Jill AnnieMargaret is an artist based in Boise, Idaho, USA. Weaving a collection of women's stories and hair, her current work creates a forensic and cultural record that aims to facilitate healing, inspire courage and end human rights abuses against women globally. Her work has been exhibited in Argentina, Japan, Italy, Finland, Portugal, India, South Korea and many locations across the United States. An Associate Professor of Art at Boise State University, she has directed the Printmaking program there since 2005. Special Note: On January 6, 2015 Jill changed her legal name from Jill Ingram Fitterer to Jill AnnieMargaret. Her new name honors four generations of women on the maternal side of her family." - © Jill AnnieMargaret

This exhibition is in conjunction with Idaho State University's 12th Annual Multidisciplinary Conference on Gender & Sexuality in Everyday Life, sponsored by the College of Arts & Letters and the Gender Resource Center, March 10th-11th.

River Ecologies

Juror: Basia Irland
Basia Irland is an author, poet, sculptor, installation artist, and activist who creates international water projects, many of which are featured in her book, Water Library (University of New Mexico Press, 2007). The book focuses on projects the artist has created over three decades in Africa, Canada, Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and The United States. Through her work, Irland offers a creative understanding of water while examining how communities of people, plants and animals rely on this vital element. Irland is Professor Emerita, Department of Art and Art History, University of New Mexico, where she established the Arts and Ecology Program.
