Classroom Scheduling Policy
Efficient and fair distribution of classroom space to all departments on campus is the aim of this classroom scheduling policy.
The following are the guidelines used to assign general classroom space:
- No department will have ownership over those rooms as general classrooms.
- All rooms classified as laboratories will be schedule by the individual departments.
- Departments may request scheduling priority for certain general classrooms based on either equipment needs or because of the physical set up of the room. At the times that the identified departments do not have the classrooms scheduled, the Office of Registration and Records will schedule other departments' classes in those rooms as appropriate.
- The Director of Registration and Records will be the arbitrator when a conflict exists between departments requesting the same classroom at the same time. The decision will be based on the best use of the space. Factors influencing that will be the size of the course and the days offered. An example might be that a course offered on Monday, Wednesday, Friday would be given higher priority for a classroom than one offered on Monday, Wednesday.
- Every effort will be made to keep courses in the same rooms from fall to fall and spring to spring.
- Events such as faculty meetings, recitations, or tutorials that meet on a regular basis during a semester and use general classroom space should be identified after course scheduling takes place for a semester. Any department needing general classroom space during the semester should make a request to the University Scheduling Coordinator in the Office of Registration and Records.
Non-Course Scheduling
To schedule a classroom for a non-course event please use Non-Course Scheduling on Faculty/Staff Tools. Please contact the University Scheduling Coordinator to schedule events longer than 6 weeks. For instructions on how to use Non-Course Scheduling see Scheduling Instructions
