ONLINE POLICY AND PROCEDURE SYSTEM
Procedure: Pass/NoPass Grade Option
Department: Registration and Records
Contact: reginfo@isu.edu
The Pass/No Pass option is offered as an inducement for students to take courses outside their major curriculum.
Courses posted in the Class Schedule with a "P" code allow students to choose the Pass/No Pass option when registering for the class. The following restrictions apply:
- Option applies only to undergraduate courses.
- Option must be declared at original class registration.
- Credits earned under the pass/no pass option will not satisfy specific graduation requirements, but will count toward total credits required.
- Students must comply with established course prerequisites or obtain the permission of the instructor to attend.
- Students may not register for more than one Pass/No Pass course per semester.
Instructors will maintain a record of letter grades throughout the semester. Letter grades will be changed automatically by the computer for those students electing the Pass/No Pass option. A grade of P will be awarded for letter grades A, B, C, or D. An NP will be awarded for the letter grade of F. The P or NP may be changed to the original letter grade on the transcript, only by petition.
No credits are awarded for any course in which an NP grade is earned.
