Students must secure minimum grade point averages (GPA) of 3.33 to be eligible for an honors designation.

Beginning Spring semester 2001 we calculate the cutoff GPA scores for the High Honors and Honors classifications by computing the top 5% and 10% groupings from among the students who have applied for graduation on our cut-off day (Approximately March 10th). The following criteria will apply:

  1. The cumulative GPA will be calculated to two decimal places, i.e. 3.65 (not 3.6 or 3.7) and a list of students sorted by cumulative GPA (In descending order) will be produced.

  2. Based on the total number of graduates who have made formal application, we will determine the high honors and honors groupings.
For Example: college XYZ has 120 students which means that there are 12 students who qualify for the high honors or honors designation. Of this group there are 6 high honors students and 6 honors students.

  3. Any student that has the same GPA as the last student in the group will be included in that group.
For Example: The last student in the high honors group has a GPA of 3.75. However, three students have the identical GPA of 3.75. All three students would be included in the high honors group. Based on the group of 12 students, there would be 8 high honors students and 4 honors students. Likewise, students who have the same GPA as the last person on the honors lists would be added to the honors list.

  4. If 10% of the students in the college generates a list with a odd number of students, i.e. 13 students (6.5 for high honors and 6.5 for honors), the number of students for the high honors group would be increased by one student.
For Example: There are 130 students in the XYZ college. There would be 7 students in the high honors group and 6 students in the honors group.

  5. Based on the pool of applicants for graduation at the March 10th deadline, the Registration and Records Office will establish the GPA cutoffs for high honors and honors for each college. These cutoffs will be used to place all students for May, August and December graduations.
