Fall 2009 Semester - Change in Fee Payment Processes
In seeking ways to minimize the impact the economic downturn and related belt tightening has had on its students, Idaho State University is changing the requirements for students to be able to hold a seat in a class they are registered for.
In the past, instructors and departments have frequently been uncertain as to the viability of a class and the need for new sections due to seats being taken by students who end up not attending the class. Students trying to get into a particular section or course must then go through a laborious process where instructors and/or departments sign add cards to fill seats occupied by those not attending. Since disenrollment of students that have not paid the fees for the class has not been taking place until Friday of the third week of class, the old registration process, instead of enabling students to sign up for empty seats, leaves them unoccupied until it is generally too late in the term to successfully add them. With a very late disenrollment, and no late fee until after the first day of classes, students often waited until the afternoon of the first day of class to finalize fee payment.
Accordingly, ISU has changed the due dates for full payment of fees to enable students who have paid fees to get into classes and sections that are full. The new registration and payment schedules are as follows:
- Priority processing for financial aid remains unchanged—10 days before classes begin.
- Because of the change of the first day of classes from a Monday to a Tuesday, normal in-person registration will be held on Thursday, August 20; Friday, August 21; and Monday, August 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- The first disenrollment for students who have not paid fees will take place the day before classes begin. For the fall 2009 term, this will be Monday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. A unique hold will be placed on these students that does not permit them to re-register. The hold will be released on Wednesday, August 26, allowing students who have paid fees one day to enroll in classes opened up by this disenrollment.
- Students who have paid fees will be allowed to add or drop after disenrollment.
- There will be a special late, in-person registration period on Tuesday, August 25, the first day of classes. Students will be subject to the $50 late handling charge, if fees were not paid by Monday, the day before the first day of classes. This in-person environment will also accommodate students who have paid fees and need to transact additional financial aid awards.
- A $50 late handling fee will go into effect beginning Tuesday, August 25, the first day of classes. However, a late registration petition will not be required at this time.
- Important: A final disenrollment will take place for students who have re-registered, but have not paid fees by the tenth day of class, September 8th.
- A $100 late handling fee will be assessed on students who have not paid fees by the tenth day of class and a signed, late registration petition will be required.
- A $25 late handling fee will be assessed on students that have not paid additional fees (normally class fees added during the add/drop period) within two weeks of the due date.
- An additional $50 per month late handling fee will be charged for those not completing payment within a month of the start of classes.
