Article I. Name of Chapter.

The name of this body is: Association of Information Technology Professionals
Idaho State University
Student Chapter

Article II. Insignia.

Article III. Purpose.

The purpose of AITP is to introduce the local AITP members to I.S.U.'s information technology students, and the students capabilities in the information processing field, to further promote a professional attitude in information systems education. To unite I.S.U.'s academic and vocational technical students in their work, and to further the information technology education of the students.

Article IV. Organization.

The Chapter is a student group sponsored by the Association of Information Technology Professionals and the Boise Chapter.

Organization status is recognition by AITP that a group of students at Idaho State University are seriously interested in information technology as a profession, and that AITP is willing to assist this group in accomplishing its objectives. This Chapter is not an agent or representative of AITP, therefore, AITP is in no way responsible for any of its actions, conducts, or liabilities.

The Constitution and Bylaws of AITP shall not be in conflict with International Bylaws concerning Student Chapters.

The affiliation of AITP shall be revoked by the International Headquarters of the Association of Information Technology Professionals if in its judgment, AITP adopts or pursues a policy in conflict with the objectives and purpose of AITP, or has been guilty of conduct which reflects adversely upon the information technology profession.

Article V. Membership.

To be eligible for membership in AITP a student must be enrolled in at least a two (2) year information systems program, and/or must have declared a major in a computer related field, and may not be on academic probation.

Honorary Members (non-fee paying) may be deans, professors, and teachers of information systems courses. AITP members may also be considered Honorary Members. At least one AITP member and one Faculty member will serve as AITP advisors as per AITP regulations.

If a student is placed on academic probation during the current school year (Sept. - May) he/she will be given one semester to bring his/her GPA above 2.00. Any member being reviewed for dismissal may defend himself/herself against dismissal at the next board meeting. Upon dismissal, no refund of fees will be reimbursed, and a re-application must be made before this member may be reinstated. Application for membership shall be submitted to the officers of the Student Chapter.

Applications for membership may be rejected only for failure to comply with the requirements set forth in these Bylaws, or failure to comply with additional requirements, which may be imposed by the administration of Idaho State University.

Unless officially dismissed by the board, members will remain in good standing for the remaining school year.

 

Article VI. Fees.

Each voting member of AITP will be required to pay a fee of twenty-five dollars ($35.00) per year.

Article VII. Officers.

Section 1: Qualifications and Elections.

The AITP officers will consist of one (1) Chairperson, two (2) Vice Chairpersons (one academic and one vocational technical), one (1) Secretary, and one (1) Treasurer. Elections will be held in January of each year. One year of membership in AITP is required of all candidates for the above officers.

Eight (8) representatives, two (2) second year Applied Technology, two (2) first year Applied Technology, and four (4) academic students will also be elected. Each must be elected to office by his/her constituents.

Nominations for officers and representatives will take place during a regular AITP meeting. Voting will be by secret ballot, and the new officers will be announced at the next meeting.

Section 2: Vacancies in Office.

In the event of a vacancy in office new officers will be elected through normal AITP procedures.


Section 3: Duties and Powers.

A. Chairperson.

1. Conduct meetings in an organized manner.
2. Serve as liaison between AITP members, Boise Idaho AITP members, and ISU faculty.
3. Attest to the correctness of any and all Student Individual Performance Award (SIPA) reporting forms, and attests to the correctness of all parts of the Student Chapter outstanding Performance Award (SCOPA) reporting package.

B. Vice Chairperson(s).

1. Assume responsibility of chairperson in the chairperson's absence.
2. Performs other duties assigned to him/her by the chairperson and/or ISU faculty.

C. Secretary.

1. Record the meeting's minutes of the Board and General Assembly meetings.
2. Be responsible for communication of necessary information to speakers and members.
3. Confirm meetings and speakers.
4. Be responsible for recording amendments to the Constitution.
5. Be responsible for recording and reporting transactions of the treasurer.
6. Prepares a brief summary of the months program and/or activity, and forwards it to the Student Chapter Newsletter Editor in care of International Headquarters.

D. Treasurer.

1. Be responsible for accounting of fees and expenditures.
2. Must approve any expenditures through the board.
3. Completes the Transmittal form for New Student Members for all approved membership applications.

E. Representatives.

1. Serve as liaison between members and the board.
2. Serve as committee chairpersons.
3. Be responsible for delegation of authority to AITP members.

All officers hold equal legislative authority.

Article VIII. Meetings.

The General Assembly will meet on the first Tuesday of each month, at (12:00) p.m.) twelve noon, in B9G of the Business Administration Building, unless otherwise ordered by the AITP officers, at least five (5) days in advance.

All members in attendance of the meeting may vote on issues presented during the meeting.

AITP meetings will be conducted according to the rules outlined in Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not in conflict with the Bylaws and any special rules of order the AITP ISU Student Chapter may adopt.

Board meetings will be held in the first Monday of each month, at (12:00 p.m.) noon in the Student Union Building unless otherwise ordered by the AITP officers at least five (5) days in advance. Officers absent from more than two (2) Board meetings or two (2) General Assembly meetings will be dismissed from their office.

Article IX. Restrictions.

AITP shall be non-racial, non-partisan, non-sectarian, and nonprofit, and shall wholly abstain from any political or labor affiliation or endorsements for any public office.

Article X. Amendments.

Consideration of a proposed amendment will be given at the meeting following the one during which it was introduced. Approval by 90% of the voting AITP members is necessary to adopt the amendment. All added amendments will be to the Constitution and Bylaws when approved by the ISU Organization Chartering Committee. Upon failure to receive 90% approval, the amendment may be reintroduced, if so desired by the representative of the amendment.
