Compromised Server Issue at Idaho State University
On December 7, 2005, the University discovered a potentially serious security breach in one of its production platforms that provides data warehousing for the Office of Institutional Research (OIR). Apparently, this server was compromised sometime during its September installation. This server contains archival information about students, faculty and staff—including social security numbers, birthdates and grades. Hacking software was discovered that had the capacity to capture passwords from traffic to or from the server. The server is now offline and will remain so until it is secured.
This Web site has been established as a University resource to answer questions and to keep students, faculty and staff apprised of the most recent information.
