INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE

Definition – Intimate Partner Violence is physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal mistreatment for the purpose of gaining power and control over an intimate partner. Domestic/Relationship Violence can occur within a number of relationships: marriages, dating relationships, friends, roommates, and same-sex partnerships. Domestic/Relationship Violence can include put-downs, name-calling, intimidation, threats, hitting, strangulation, punching, slapping, and forced sexual acts.
