ISU Alumni Association

Overview

Each year, the ISU Office of Alumni Relations, in partnership with all of ISU's colleges and divisions, seek to recognize outstanding graduating seniors who have excelled in their programs, their extracurricular activities and have generally epitomized ISU's outstanding student body.

About the Award

This award honors one graduating senior from each college/unit. Students will be recognized in the following areas: College of Arts & Letters- Fine Arts & Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of Science & Engineering- Natural & Physical Sciences and Engineering, Division of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Education, College of Business, College of Technology and School of Graduate Studies- Master’s and Doctoral programs.

Faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to nominate senior students who meet the selection criteria and who graduated in December 2012, or who will graduate in May 2013 or August 2013. Nominations and supporting materials are reviewed by college/unit selection committees who then select each recipient.

OSA recipients will be honored at the Outstanding Student Reception and recognition ceremony on April 19, 2013 in the Rogers Black Box Theater in the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Award recipients receive medallions and have the opportunity to recognize those involved in their success.

The Office of Alumni Relations sponsors this program and presents it in partnership with Idaho State University academic colleges and units.

History of the OSA Awards

Several years ago, the ISU Office of Alumni Relations recognized the need for a formal program to honor student excellence. Idaho State University has many outstanding students and it is important to honor them. Recognition and appreciation of effort and dedication can only encourage more excellence and achievement. The Outstanding Student Achievement Awards affirm current students who become our alumni. The Outstanding Student Achievement Awards are our way of affirming current students who become our alumni.

Each year, deans, faculty, staff and students from each college nominate students whose qualities they characterize as outstanding. Selection committees, under the direction of each Dean or Division Director, are established to review, evaluate and select award recipients. Students who nominate fellow students must have the nomination form endorsed by a member of the ISU faculty.

After the committees select the award recipients, each winner is notified by the university president and invited to attend the Outstanding Student Awards reception held in their honor.

Qualification

For undergraduate nominees: Selection should be based on three areas: academic achievements/honors; career-related experience, and extra-curricular activities. An Outstanding Student Achievement Award nominee should be a well-rounded and successful member of our campus and community. Tie-breaking areas of selection can include leadership activities and strength of class load as it pertains to each student's major.

For graduate nominees:Selection should be based on three areas: academic achievements/honors; career-related experience, and extra-curricular activities. An Outstanding Student Achievement Award nominee from the graduate school should be a well-rounded and successful member of our campus and community. As all graduate degrees differ in the completion requirements, each candidate will likely come with different degrees of research, published materials and teaching experience. Each selection committee will discuss and weigh the importance of research, published materials and/or the amount of time spent teaching.

Criteria and materials reviewed by selection committees include:
